Jaqueline Cristian is a Romanian professional tennis player. She has career-high WTA rankings of No 58 in singles and has won 12 singles and ten doubles titles on tournaments of the ITF Circuit.
Jaqueline Adina Cristian was born on June 5, 1998, in Bucharest, Romania. She started in tennis as a kid and already 11 years old started competing at international tournaments, reaching the semi-finals of the 2009 GD Tennis Cup U12 in Antalya (Turkey), as well as the quarter-finals of the 2009 Open des 10/12 in Boulogne (France). In 2010 and 2011 she competed at the Junior Orange Bowl, while in 2012 won the titles at the International Junior Championship in Cairo (Egypt), FRT Junior Trophy in Bucharest (Romania), and Les Petits As – Le Mondial Lacoste in Tarbes (France) and in 2013 won the title at the J2 Plzen \ Ex Pilsen Babolat Cup and reached the semi-finals of the J300 Bradenton \ Eddie Herr International Junior Tennis Championships.
Jaqueline Cristian made her professional debut in 2012, competing at the $15,000 Istanbul (Turkey), where reached the quarter-finals. During the season she played also at the $15,000 Iasi (Romania), but lost in the first round.
In 2013, Jaqueline Cristian reached the semi-finals of the $15,000 W15 Sharm El Sheikh (Egypt) and the second round of the $15,000 W15 Bucharest (Romania). However, her main task during the season was competing at the junior tour, gaining experience and gameplay.
In 2014, she played again at the $15,000 W15 Sharm El Sheikh (Egypt), but reached the second round only. During the season she played at the Junior Grand Slam tournaments, but failed to overcome the first round.
Jaqueline Cristian won her first ITF title in 2015, triumphing at the $15,000 W15 Sharm El Sheikh (Egypt). Later during the season, she reached the semi-finals of the $15,000 Pereira (Portugal).
Jaqueline Cristian started the 2016 season strongly by reaching the semi-finals of the $10,000 Fort-de-France (France), gaining power to the mid-season, when triumphed with the titles at the $15,000 W15 Sharm El Sheikh (Egypt) and $15,000 Targu Jiu (Romania).
In 2017, Jaqueline Cristian made her WTA main scheme debut, playing at the WTA 250 BRD Bucharest Open, where reached the second round. Meanwhile, during the season she won the titles at the $25,000 Mamaia (Romania) and $25,000 W25 Pune (India), but also was the runner-up at the $25,000 W25 Istanbul (Turkey).
In 2018, Jaqueline Cristian made relatively weak season by her biggest achievement was reaching the semi-finals of the $25,000 Perth (Australia), $25,000 W25 Horb (Germany), and $25,000 Sofia (Bulgaria), as well as the quarter-finals of the $60,000 W60 Burnie (Australia).
In 2019, Jaqueline Cristian won the title at the $25,000 W25+H Tunis (Tunisia), but also was the runner-up at the $25,000 W25 Minsk (Belarus), $25,000 W25 Grado (Italy), and $25,000 W25 Chiasso (Italy). During the season she reached the second round of the WTA 250 BRD Bucharest Open and played also in the main scheme of the WTA 125 Liqui Moly Open Karlsruhe and WTA 250 Jiangxi Open. In doubles, she played her first WTA tournament final at the WTA 250 BRD Bucharest Open.
Jaqueline Cristian had a short, but quite successful season in 2020. She reached the second round of the WTA 250 Open 6ème Sens – Métropole de Lyon and the third round of the WTA 125 Prague Open. She won the title at the $25,000 W25 Trnava (Slovakia) and played in the semi-finals of the $25,000 W25 Istanbul (Turkey).
Jaqueline Cristian made a breakthrough in 2021, playing the semi-finals at the WTA 250 Astana Open and WTA 125 Liqui Moly Open Karlsruhe, as well as the quarter-finals of the WTA 250 Transylvania Open, before playing her first WTA singles final at he WTA 250 Upper Austria Ladies Linz. Meanwhile, during the season she reached the quarter-finals of the WTA 250 Palermo Ladies Open and WTA 500 St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy, as well as finished as the runner-up at the $60,000 W60 Andrezieux-Boutheon (France).
In 2022, Jaqueline Cristian won another title at the $80,000 W80+H Le Neubourg (France). During the season she debuted in the Grand Slam main draw, reaching the second round of the Australian Open, but also played in the second rounds of the WTA 1000 Qatar TotalEnergies Open, WTA 500 St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy, and WTA 500 Sydney Tennis Classic.
In 2023, Jaqueline Cristian won the titles at the $60,000 W60 Trnava (Slovakia), $25,000 W25 PALMANOVA (Spain), and $60,000 W60 Zagreb (Croatia). She also reached the second round of Wimbledon and WTA 1000 Madrid Open. Jaqueline Cristian made a strong second half of the season, reaching the semi-finals of the WTA 250 Livesport Prague Open, WTA 125 Tiriac Foundation Trophy, and WTA 125 Open Capfinances Rouen Metropole, as well as the quarter-finals of the WTA 125 Open delle Puglie and WTA 125 Parma Ladies Open. At the end of the season she was the runner-up at the W100 Valencia.
Jaqueline Cristian started the 2024 season without overcoming the first rounds of the WTA 250 ASB Classic and Australian Open, and reached the second round of the WTA 500 Upper Austria Ladies Linz. However, she made a breakthrough at home soil, reaching the semi-finals of the WTA 250 Transylvania Open by Verdino and the quarter-finals of the WTA 500 Credit One Charleston Open. At the WTA 1000 Madrid Open she reached the third round and played in the main draw of Wimbledon and French Open / Roland Garros, but did not overcome the first rounds.
