Vitalia Diatchenko was born on August 2, 1990, in Sochi, Russia. She started in tennis as a kid. She showed great results as a junior.
Vitalia Diatchenko turned professional in 2007. She won her first trophy at the $10,000 Redbridge (Great Britain) already the same season. She also reached the semi-finals of the $10,000 Brcko (Bosnia) and the quarter-finals of the $10,000 Sunderland (Great Britain).
In 2008, Vitalia Diatchenko continued improving her skills and gained experience, which was visible on the court. She reached the semi-finals of the $25,000 St.Petersburg (Russia) and the quarter-finals of the $25,000 Minsk (Belarus), before making a great breakthrough at the $50,000 Dnepropetrovsk (Russia), reaching the semi-finals, and $75,000 Moscow (Russia) and $50,000 Penza (Russia), reaching the quarter-finals. At the end of the season, Vitalia Diatchenko won her second title at the prestigious $75,000 Dubai (UAE). Thus, she entered into the world’s Top 200, finishing the season as the world’s No 196.
Vitalia Diatchenko made her WTA main scheme debut in 2009, competing at the WTA 250 PTT Pattaya Open, where reached the second round. Later she won another ITF title at the $25,000 W25 Moscow (Russia) and reached the semi-finals of the $50,000 Khanti-Mansiysk (Russia), before debuting also at the main scheme of the Grand Slam’s French Open / Roland Garros, where reached the second round. By the end of the season, she reached the semi-finals of the $50,000 Minsk (Belarus) and played in the main scheme of two more WTA 250 tournaments, where lost in the first round.
In 2010, Vitalia Diatchenko won another title at the $25,000 W25 Darmstadt (Germany) and played in the final of the $50,000 Kazan (Russia), but lost to her compatriot Anna Lapushchenkova.
Vitalia Diatchenko won her most prestigious title in 2011, triumphing at the $100,000 Astana (Kazakhstan). During the season she also reached the semi-finals of the $50,000 Kazan (Russia) and the $25,000 W25 Woking (Great Britain), as well as the quarter-finals of the $75,000 Shrewsbury (Great Britain). However, playing doubles at the Kremlin Cup, she suffered a knee injury that ruled her out from playing tennis for six months.
Vitalia Diatchenko missed most of the 2012 season, but returned at the $50,000 Nottingham (Great Britain) and WTA 250 Tashkent Open, reaching the second round in both tournaments.
Although she thought the recovery had been completed, Vitalia Diatchenko again went out of tennis for most of the 2013 season, returning only in December at the $60,000 Ankara (Turkey), where won her sixth ITF title.
In 2014, the Russian tennis player made a fantastic start and performance, winning the title at the $10,000 W15 Sharm El Sheikh (Egypt), reaching the semi-finals of the $60,000 Istanbul (Turkey) and being the runner-up at the $25,000 W25 Moscow (Russia). During the summer, Vitalia Diatchenko won again the title at the $100,000 Astana (Kazakhstan) and reached the semi-finals of the $25,000 Saint-Petersburg (Russia), before winning the $25,000 W25 Moscow (Russia). In November, she won her most prestigious title, triumphing at the WTA 125 Taipei OEC Open. Following this great season, she entered into the world’s Top 100, finishing as the world’s No 81.
In 2015, Vitalia Diatchenko won her 10th ITF title at the $50,000 Surbiton (Great Britain). During the season she also reached the second round of the French Open / Roland Garros but also played at the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open, where lost in the first rounds.
Vitalia Diatchenko again missed almost half of the 2016 season due to injury. She returned on the court in May, reaching the quarter-finals of the $25,000 La Marsa (Tunisia). She also played in the main scheme of the French Open / Roland Garros and the US Open but again dropped out in the first rounds. In the end of the year, however, she finished as runner-up at the $60,000 Ankara (Turkey).
In 2017, Vitalia Diatchenko continued winning titles at the ITF Circuit, triumphing at the $25,000 W25 Chiswick (Great Britain) and $25,000 W25 Istanbul (Turkey), but also reached the semi-finals at the WTA 125 Dalian Women’s Tennis Open and the quarter-finals of the WTA 125 Hua Hin Championships and WTA 125 Hawaii Open.
In 2018, Vitalia Diatchenko made her biggest breakthrough in the Grand Slam, reaching the third round of Wimbledon after eliminating Maria Sharapova (Russia) and Sofia Kenin (USA). During the season she won the title at the $5,000 W25 Chiswick (Great Britain), but also reached the semi-finals of the WTA 125 Taipei OEC Open, $100,000 Khimki (Russia), and $25,000 La Bisbal (Spain).
Vitalia Diatchenko returned again in the WTA Top 100 in 2019 after winning the titles at the $25,000 W25 Grenoble (France), $60,000 W60 Shrewsbury (Great Britain), $60,000 W60 Croissy-Beaubourg (France), $25,000 W25 Bolton (Great Britain), and $60,000 W60 Istanbul (Turkey). After the great start, she climbed to world’s No 73. Vitalia Diatchenko played at the WTA 250 Nurnberger Versicherungs and French Open / Roland Garros but lost in the first rounds. She won another title at the $25,000 W25+H Penza (Russia) and reached the semi-finals of the $80,000 W80 Poitiers (France) and $25,000 W25 St. Etienne (France). At the end of the season Vitalia Diatchenko triumphed again at the WTA 125 Taipei OEC Open, thus finishing the season as world’s No 90.
The short 2020 season, again stopped the impetus of the Russian tennis player. Vitalia Diatchenko started the season playing in the main schemes of the WTA 500 Adelaide International, Australian Open, and WTA 500 St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy, but failed to overcome the first round at none of them. The season was interrupted by the coronavirus pandemic and by the end of the season she played only at the WTA 250 Open 6eme Sens – Metropole de Lyon and French Open / Roland Garros, but again lost in the first round of both tournaments.
In 2021, Vitalia Diatchenko won another WTA 15 title, triumphing at the WTA 125 Open P2i Angers Arena Loire. During the season she targeted tournaments with high rates but hardly overcame the first or second round of most of them.
In 2022, Vitalia Diatchenko won two more ITF titles at the $25,000 W25 Macon (France) and $25,000 W25 Santarem (Portugal) and also reached the quarter-finals of the WTA 250 Open 6eme Sens – Metropole de Lyon.
Vitalia Diatchenko continued playing mostly in the ITF tour in 2023, but her biggest success was reaching the final of the $40,000 W40 TBILISI (Georgia).
