Bernarda Pera

Bernarda Pera is an American professional tennis player. She has won two singles titles and one doubles title on the WTA Tour, along with nine singles and eight doubles titles on the ITF Circuit. She achieved career-high rankings of world No 32 in singles on April 24, 2023.

Bernarda Pera was born on December 3, 1994, in Zadar, Croatia. She started in tennis at an early age in Croatia and showed her great talent. Her father, who is a US citizen, moved with his family to the United States in 2010, giving a boost to his daughter’s career. As a junior, she won the J200 Prato \ International Junior Tournament Citta’ Di Prato in 2012. Until 2013, she competed for Croatia, but after that plays for the United States.

Bernarda Pera made her professional debut in 2011 at the ITF Circuit. She played at the $10,000 Landisville, PA (USA) and reached the second round. In her second professional tournament, already 17 years old, she reached the semi-finals of the $10,000 Sarajevo (Bosnia). During the season, she also played at the $10,000 Osijek (Croatia), $10,000 Solin (Croatia), $15,000 Bol (Croatia), and $10,000 Dubrovnik (Croatia), in most of them reaching the second round.

In 2012, Bernarda Pera played her first ITF finals at the $15,000 Bol (Croatia), $10,000 Sarajevo (Bosnia), and $10,000 Solin (Croatia), but lost all of them, being a step from winning her first title.

At the beginning of the 2013 season, she lost two more finals at the $10,000 W15 Madrid (Spain) and $15,000 Bol (Croatia), before winning her first ITF title at the $10,000 W15 Alkmaar (Netherlands). By the end of the season, Bernarda Pera won two more titles at the $10,000 Breda (Netherlands) and $15,000 Rotterdam (Netherlands).

Bernarda Pera won two more trophies in 2014. She won the title at the $10,000 Gloucester (UK) and $15,000 Breda (Netherlands), but also was the runner-up at the $15,000 Amstelveen (Netherlands), played in the semi-finals of the $10,000 W15 Alkmaar (Netherlands) and $25,000 Florence, SC (USA).

In 2015, the American tennis player, reached the quarter-finals of the prestigious W100 Midland, MI (USA), as well as the semi-finals of the $25,000 Helsingborg (Sweden), $15,000 Zeeland (Netherlands), and $25,000 W25 Torino (Italy), before winning the title at the $25,000 W25+H Imola (Italy).

Bernarda Pera continues gaining experience during the 2016 season, playing entirely in the ITF Circuit. She was the runner-up at the $25,000 W25 Pelham, AL (USA) and reached the semi-finals of the $25,000 Middelburg (Netherlands) and $25,000 W25 Redding, CA (USA).

Bernarda Pera made her WTA debut in 2017 at the WTA 250 Guangzhou Open. However, she lost in the first round. During the season she played at the WTA 125 Open BLS De Limoges, but again lost in the first round. During the season, she won the titles at the $25,000 W25 Stuttgart-Vaihingen (Germany) and $80,000+H Olomouc (Czech Republic), and was the runner-up at the $25,000 W25 Santa Margherita Di Pula (Italy), $25,000 Dunakeszi (Hungary), $25,000 W25 Darmstadt (Germany).

In 2018, Bernarda Pera debuted in the Grand Slam, playing at the Australian Open in the start of the season, reaching the third round. She turned entirely to the WTA Tour, reaching the second round of the WTA 1000 Miami Open, the quarter-finals of the WTA 500 Credit One Charleston Open, the third round of the WTA 1000 Madrid Open, and the second round of the French Open / Roland Garros. At the end of the season, she reached the semi-finals of the WTA 250 Guangzhou Open. Following the great performance during the season, she entered into the world’s Top 100 and ended as the world’s No 69.

In 2019, Bernarda Pera reached the semi-finals of the WTA 250 Livesport Prague Open, WTA 250 Ladies Open Lausanne, and WTA 250 Baltic Open, meanwhile winning the title of the prestigious $100,000 W100 Trnava (Slovakia).

The short 2020 season cooled the impetus of Bernarda Pera, who reached the second round of the Grand Slam tournaments and some masters.

In 2021, the American tennis player did not record any special success and hardly overcame the second round of any of the WTA tournaments. She dropped in the ranking and finished at the world’s No 93.

Bernarda Pera made her breakthrough in 2022. She was the runner-up at the WTA 125 Liqui Moly Open Karlsruhe, before winning the WTA 250 Hungarian Grand Prix and WTA 250 Hamburg European Open. She played another final at the WTA 125 Thoreau Tennis Open and reached the semi-finals of the WTA 250 Tennis in the Land. Thus, she climbed to the world’s No 44.

In 2023, she continues playing strongly and gaining great success. She reached the third round of the Australian Open, WTA 1000 Indian Wells Open, and WTA 500 Credit One Charleston Open. She also reached the quarter-finals of the WTA 250 Hobart International.
